What it is
HITRUST CSF is a prescriptive control framework with a scored, certifiable assessment performed by an authorized external assessor and validated by HITRUST itself. The e1, i1, and r2 assessments differ in control count and rigour: e1 is a foundational assessment, i1 a threat-adaptive set, and r2 a risk-based assessment scored across maturity levels. Certification runs one or two years depending on assessment type.

What the engagement looks like
Baseline. We assess against the correct assessment type before anything else. Choosing r2 when i1 satisfies the customer is the most expensive mistake in this framework, and it is made early.
Build. HITRUST scores maturity across policy, procedure, implementation, measurement, and management. We author to that structure deliberately, because a control that is implemented but has no measurement evidence scores materially lower.
Build, continued. We stand up the evidence library against the specific requirement statements in your tailored assessment, and work through remediation with your team. The requirement count is high and the tolerance for gaps is low.
Audit Sprint. We mock the validated assessment, close scoring gaps, and manage the external assessor relationship and the HITRUST quality assurance cycle that follows fieldwork.
Steady State. Interim assessments and recertification arrive faster than teams expect. We keep the evidence current, run the measurement and management activities that scoring depends on, and prepare each cycle in advance.
